Government of Liberia announces new transportation fares    The Ministry of Transport (MoT) and the Ministry of Commerce (MoC) in collaboration with the Liberia National Police (LNP) have launched new transportation fares for all categories of commercial transport with the exception of motorcycle in Monrovia and its environs. Addressing a press briefing at the weekend, Transport Minister Samuel A. Wlue stated that the high transportation fare in the country was due to the prices of petroleum products on the Liberian market. According to the the Liberia News Agency (LINA), the Minister of Transport  said, the new transportation fares are due to the  public outcry about rising fares, adding that the reduction will bring relief to commuters. Minister Wlue explained that the issue of petroleum products and transportation fares fall within the jurisdiction of both the Ministries of Transport and Commerce. President Weah dedicates a refurbished United Da’wah Mosque and School  President Weah Hails Qatar for Funding Refurbishment of United Da'wah Mosque & School The President of the Republic, H. E. Dr. George Manneh Weah, has commended the Government of Qatar for the indispensable role it continues to play in Liberia’s development, including funding provided for the reconstruction of the United Da'wah Mosque and School in the Redlight Community. President Weah requested the Government of Qatar for re-construction of the building after it was gutted by fire which resulted into the death of 27 boarding Islamic students and an Instructor. Dedicating the new complex on Friday, August 27, 2021, President Weah paid tribute to the memories of the deceased students, describing their loss regrettable and a sad day for him, families and the entire nation. The Lone Star shines early next month. The English Coach Peter of the Liberia National Football Team, The LONE STAR has name a  crack 22-men footballing team for the double headed- FIFA World Cup qualifying matches  tour that begins early next month against Nigeria. The Lone Star will be away over the next fortnight during the September FIFA international World Cup qualifying rounds to play the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Central African Republic CAR. After careful vetting and selection of players early Friday a release a list of 22- players was called for party against high-flying Nigeria on September 3 and Central African Republic on September 8. Butler named Seven locals accompanied by 15 professional players for the crucial games. World Photography Day 2021:   Transcending the boundaries of language, photography is a medium that has a universal value. While there is a constant debate on the question whether photography is an art or a personal collection of memories, the indispensable role played by photography in documenting history and storing memories for posterity is incredible. Initially photography was taken to be an absolute objective medium of recording the “truth”, however the cloak of objectivity soon lost its sheen as intellectuals proved that just like every medium photography was equally prone to manipulation, schemes and machinations of the person clicking the picture. Every year on 19 August, when we celebrate World Photography Day, we get an opportunity to discuss such conflicting ideas associated with the medium and remember the positive contribution of the medium towards making our world a better place. Let me assure you that the Government is taking every precaution and action to protect our borders and ports of entry.  However, in spite of these arrangements, I regret to inform you that Liberia has recorded a confirmed case of the COVID-19 virus.  The infected person is Mr. Nathaniel Blama, Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency, who arrived in Liberia on Brussels Airlines on Friday night, the 13 th  of March.  Along with several other officials of Government traveling on the same flight, Mr. Blama chose not to be quarantined, in keeping with the health protocols that were in place at the airport.  An intensive tracing exercise is underway to identify and test all persons with whom he came into contact.  Meanwhile, all other persons who traveled on that flight and by-passed the mandatory screening protocols, are being made to report to the health authorities immediately and without any further delay, for testing.
